Spanish speaking population

Spanish language is an official language of over twenty countries and of several international organizations. There are over 400 million Spanish speaking people in the world. Spanish is the native language of more than 70% of the population in Spain. Some of the significant organizations that consider Spanish as an official language include: the United Nations, the European Union, the Union of South American Nations, the African Union and the Latin Union.

The country of Mexico tops the list of the countries with Spanish speaking people, having the largest of all which is above 100 million. The United States has emerged as the number two country worldwide, with a Spanish speaking population of about 47 million. The figure is ahead of Spain- the country of origin of Spanish language.

Spanish speaking population in Mexico

Mexico is the only nation in the world that has more than 100 million Spanish speaking people spread across the country. The Spanish language first reached Mexico a little before the start of the sixteenth century. The Spanish people migrated from Spain mainly due to political instability and the civil wars. Today, 97.5% of the population of Mexico speaks Spanish. The Mexicans speak their Mexican Spanish dialect that differs from the Standard Spanish dialect in terms of pronunciation and to some extent in grammar. The Spanish speaking population in Mexico mainly follows Roman Catholicism religion.

More than two thirds of Mexican Spanish speaking populations stays in the cities. The Spanish speaking population of Mexico has the highest purchasing capacity as compared to other nations in South America. Mexico is the largest producer of automobiles in the American continent. The economy of this Spanish speaking consumer market is expected to rank in the first five strong economies of the world in the following decades.

Spanish speaking population in the United States

Like Mexico the United States was occupied by Spanish speaking population from the sixteenth century. It is second country in the list of largest Spanish speaking population because in the recent years it has crossed the 47 million counts which is equivalent to the total population of Spain. However, this count has fewer than half the Spanish speaking population in Mexico. The major Spanish speaking populations are concentrated in the states of: Arizona, Colorado, California, Florida, Illinois, New York, New Mexico, New Jersey and Texas.

This Spanish speaking population of United States mainly uses the Mexican Spanish dialect, New Mexican Spanish dialect or the Standard Spanish dialect in their communication.
