FUTURO IMPERFECTO DE INDICATIVO (Imperfect Future Tense- Indicative Mood)

  

VERBS ENDING IN —AR, -ER, -IR CHANGE TO -RE

AMAR (love)

Yo amare

Tu amaras

El amaremos

Nosotros amaremos

Vosotros amareis

Ellos amaran

 

 

However, with certain irregular verbs though the future is structured in the same way, the root of the verb changes.

 

Some of the most common irregular verbs are:

El mes que viene hare un curso de computacion

(Next month I´ll take a computing course)

 

Ella no querra trabajar alli

(She will not want to work there)

 

Saldremos por la manana y viajaremos rumbo al norte.

(We´ll leave in the morning and we´ll head north)

 

USE

 

  • To express future, it is common to use the periphrasis: IR + A + INFINITIVE

 

El abuelo le comprara la bicicleta al nieto.

El abuelo le va a comprar la bicicleta al nieto.

(The grandfather will buy the bike to his grandson)

 

Tocaremos el piano manana

Vamos a tocar el piano manana

(We´ll play the piano tomorrow) 

 

  • It can also express a strong probability.

 

?Por que llora la nina?

Tendra sueno. (= Debe tener sueno)

(Whys is the girl crying? She must be sleepy.)

 

 Notes:

  • Please remember that Deber + verbo = probability

 

  • And Deber + verbo = moral duty, need. (Ella debe

saber que decir) (She must know what to answer).

 

 

 Exercises

 

1)      Provide another version of the sentences given keeping the same meaning:

 

Example:

a)      El avion partira manana a las 7.55 a.m.

 El avion va a partir manana a las 7.55 a.m

(The plane will take off tomorrow at 7.55 am.)

 

b)     Juana podra dormir en el sofa.

Juana va a poder dormir en el sofa. 

(Juana will be able to sleep on the sofa)

 

      c) Gabriela va a curar muchos enfermos cuando se reciba de enfermera.

       Grabiela cuidara muchos enfermos cuando se reciba de enfermera

(Gabriela will take care of many ill people when she gets her nurse degree) 

 

 

d)     El periodico va a publicar la nota en la edicion vespertina.

El periodico publicara la nota en la edicion vespertina

(The newspaper will publish the article in the evening edition)

 

 

2)      Now provide answers to the following questions stating strong probability

 

Example:

?Quien es? (Who is he?) (Nuevo empleado)

Sera el nuevo empleado (He must be the new employee)

 

a)      ?Que hora es? Estoy muy cansada. (12.00 a.m.)

(What time is it? I am very tired)

Seran casi las 12.00 a.m. (it must be 12.00 a.m.)

 

b)      ?Has visto mi pasaporte? Debo viajar y no lo encuentro. ?Donde puede estar? (cajon de la comoda)

(Have you seen my passport? I must travel and I can´t find it. Where can it be?)

Estara en el cajon de la comoda. (It must be in the chest of drawers)

 

c)      Cuanto cuestan unos buenos pantalones de ski? (entre 750 y 900 pesos)

How much can a good pair of ski trousers cost?

Costaran entre 750 y 900 pesos.  

 

d)      ?Por que no viene Belen a la fiesta con nosotros? (tener prisa)

Why doesn´t Belen come to the party with us?

Tendra prisa

 

e)      ?A que hora sale el ultimo autobus? (a las 10.30 pm)

What time does the last bus leave?

Saldra a las 10.30 p.m. 

                                                                                

 

f)        ?Quien golpea a la puerta? (Marina)

(Who´s knocking at the door?)

Debe ser Marina
